Over the Under the Hill

This is a good example of my nebulous thought process. I wanted to make a beastie practicing an instrument on a hill, and the music waking the hill up.

That is more of a concrete idea than my usual pieces, but I’d be lying if I said I had ‘visualized’ anything. I didn’t know what I wanted the beasties to look like, or what else was on the hill, or even what instrument would be involved. All of that happened in the moment as I sculpted.

I’m exceptionally pleased with the results and will be doing more of this ‘half baked’ kind of narrative sculpting in the future. Starting with just a simple tale and letting everything grow from that seed.
